SUMMARY:WIFI Film Festival Film Showing
DESCRIPTION:  \nWIFI is dedicated to promoting and celebrating film production\, stories from the Midwest\, and education at Washburn University\, in the Topeka community\, and in the state of Kansas. Its leadership holds to the mission statement of Washburn University and sees WIFI as an organization that will allow the department to foster and engage in relationships that will enhance students’ lives and help them in their development as productive and responsible citizens. \nAt the core of WIFI’s inception is the belief that cinema is one of the most democratic arts with its ability to reach large audiences on an accessible and inclusive level. \nEach year\, the WIFI Film Festival adopts a theme that it promotes through its work in the community and on campus. This year\, the festival has adopted Washburn University’s spring 2023 theme: Health & Healing. Full schedule below!

DESCRIPTION:The unveiling of Topekan\, Teresa Cuevas statue will be celebrated on Friday\, May 5th\, 2023\, at Evergy Plaza from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Teresa Cuevas was a founder of Mariachi Estrella – one of the first all‐female Mariachi groups in the United States. \nThe life‐size bronze statue will be positioned on the 600 block of Kansas Avenue close to the main entrance of Evergy Plaza. She will be the first Hispanic and Women among the other statues along Kansas Avenue in downtown Topeka. \n Official ceremony to unveil and dedicate the Teresa Cuevas statue.\n Special guests include Artist/Sculptor Joe Skeeba\, Mayor Michael Padilla\, City of Topeka\, local elected officials\, and Investors.\n Music and entertainment\, by local young artist Layni Hernandez\, Jose Cuevas\, DJ AES360\, and Maria Cuevas and Tess Cuevas will perform with Mariachi Habanero.\n Food and beverages will be for sale by the Fiesta Topeka candidates and Fiesta Topeka committee. \n
