Event-Day Details
- Making Strides is Saturday, October 19.
- Registration is 8:00-9:00am. We encourage everyone to register as a participant, but you do not have to register to attend.
- The 5K walk starts at 9:00am. The route has different options and you can walk one, two or three laps.
- Everyone is welcome! This is a family-friendly event and we hope you will invite your family and friends to join you.
- Making Strides is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Cash, card and checks are accepted throughout the event.
- Registration and donations are accepted through our website – www.makingstrideswalk.org/topekaks.
5K Route
- Start at Evergy Plaza.
- Walk south down Kansas to intersection of 8th and Kansas.
- Turn west (right) on 8th and walk to Jackson.
- Continue onto statehouse grounds sidewalk along 8th and walk to Harrison.
- Staying on the sidewalk, turn south (left) on Harrison.
- Turn east (left) at entrance drive to the statehouse and walk under/around statehouse to southside.
- Once circle has been completed, turn south (left) and continue on sidewalk to 10th.
- Turn east (left) and continue on sidewalk to Jackson.
- Turn north (left) and continue on sidewalk to 8th.
- Repeat steps #4 – 9 for second and third lap.
- After completing third lap around the statehouse, turn right (east) on 8th and walk to Kansas.
- Turn north (left) on Kansas and finish at Evergy Plaza.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a walk or run?
Participants can choose to run, but they will not be timed. The majority of participants walk the route.
Where do I park?
Downtown parking lots and garages are free on the weekends. We encourage you to visit Evergy’s website for parking details.
Do I need to register or check-in when I get there?
We hope all participants will register, but you are not required to check in or register. Stop by the Registration or Info Tent if you have questions.
Are animals permitted?
Only properly documented service dogs are allowed at the event.
Can I buy a Making Strides t-shirt or merchandise?
Yes! Shirts and Making Strides merchandise will be available in the merchandise tent. You can also visit acseventstore.org.
Do I receive a t-shirt if I am a Cancer Survivor?
Yes! Cancer Survivors that register online can redeem a survivor t-shirt that will be shipped directly to them. There is no fundraising requirement for Survivor Shirts.
Will there be food available?
The Blind Barista food truck will be serving hot and cold drinks and baked goods that can be purchased. Water and snacks will be available after the 5K for walkers.
